Liz Berna starting training competing with dogs in 2009 and has achieved over 125 titles with her dogs across multiple venues and sports. Liz has competed at the national level with multiple dogs in four different sports. In addition to competing she also works dogs in Search and Rescue/Recovery and judges for Obedience, Rally, and Scentwork in multiple organizations.

Firewall K9 got its start in 2012 as a German Shepherd breeder founded on the principle of producing dogs that are stable and social in any environment but also love to work, and are so joyful they captivate onlookers. In 2013, Firewall K9 co-bred its first litter in 2013 which has led to nationally-ranked progeny and grand-progeny. In the years to follow the dogs competed at progressively higher levels and expanded venues as well as excelling in real-world work of SAR.

In 2021, Firewall K9 added their first Belgian Malinois to the kennel after careful selection of lines. Drawing upon the strong detection genetics of the chosen lines has led to focus on producing exceptional detection and SAR prospects with multiple generations certified working dogs.
